COVID Reference Guide

In this Sunday's service Reverend Tom Rosiello, Minister of the Fellowship, takes his inspiration from the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, which is observed this year from sundown October 4 to sundown October 5.

The second of the High Holy Days on the Jewish calendar, Yom Kippur invites the faithful to celebrate a time of forgiving and seeking forgiveness. And, in the days leading to Yom Kippur, Jewish people practice "teshuva," which is known in English as "returning."

“Through a spiritual practice of forgiveness,” Rev. Rosiello reminds us, “we return to our better selves by letting go of feelings, attitudes, and other obstacles that hold us back from relationships and attitudes that take us to happier places in our lives. By forgiving ourselves and each other, we become able to move forward with refreshed minds and renewed spirits."

SOS: Helping Plant Trees

If anyone can help place trees in the ground, we need your help this Saturday!

Please join Jurgen Ahlers at 11 am, meeting at Soriana (La Luciernaga) to help Ben and Victoria plant trees donated by the city’s Ecologia. These tree saplings may die if prompt action is not taken, i.e., planting them in the ground - establishing a park for the 3 or 4 villages surrounding TIKKUN EcoCenter. It’ll be a few hours of “in the dirt fun fellowship,” with hands-on experience in creating permaculture. If you have a shovel, please bring it. Wear strong footwear. And, if possible, bring a dish to share with other volunteers.

The President's Hour: October 3

The next President’s Hour Zoom meeting on Monday October 3 will feature speakers from the UUFSMA Social Action Committee.

The co-chairs Stephanie Studenski and Jane Wilkinson plus committee member Michael Murphy who is heading the group's fundraising initiative will be live beginning at 11 a.m.

The three will answer questions, explain the process of vetting NGO's, and give us a run down of how the organizations are selected, and how the committee members interact with each of our partner NGO’s.

Join us to learn more about our fellowship, meet and get to know other UUFSMA members, and have a fun hour of camaraderie.

Future meetings will feature board members, committee chairs, volunteers, and will provide you an opportunity to ask questions from those who know.

Hope to see you on Zoom at 11 a.m. next Monday (and every Monday) October 3.

If you would like to receive the Zoom link and a reminder of the meeting, please contact Diana Amaya at info.uufsma@gmail.com. She will send you the information every Monday morning along with a notice about the guests and what will be discussed.

See you Monday.

Social Action Committee - Our Social Action Committee, which works all year to vet and monitor our Fellowship’s grantees, has a couple of vacancies available for dynamic members who like to be close to the action! We only meet once a month, typically via Zoom, and we share what each of us has learned about the nonprofits we steward. Each of us on the team feels personally enriched by the relationships we have developed with our grantees, which are prominent nonprofits that have proven themselves capable of serving those most in need. We are honored to support the wonderful things they do.
