Read Across America Week & Challenge

Join us in celebrating Read Across America Week by participating in the spirt week and the Reading Challenge.


Academic Fair
March 6 at 6:00 p.m. 
Held once every three years, the Academic Fair is a non-competitive event that offers students the opportunity to research and display their knowledge on a wide variety of topics.  Topics can be "science" or "non-science" themed. Please come out and see the projects your peers are working on.

Dads & Donuts
March 14 at 8:00 a.m.
We hope your student can make this fun time to enjoy donuts and delightful conversation with the one they love. If dad is unable to join your student, feel free to bring a brother, uncle, grandpa, or other dynamite person! Details here.

Daddy/Daughter Dance 
April 6 at 6:00 p.m. 
A committee is forming to begin the planning of this special dance. If you are interested in helping, please email Jaime Pollock.


East Hanover Cares Corner
Thank you to everyone who came to the East Hanover Cares Skate Night! It was a fun event for a great cause, raising $200 and collecting 60 pairs of pajamas! 

Your child should have brought home a Mini-THON t-shirt order form. Forms and payment are due this Friday, March 1. All proceeds from the t-shirt sale will be donated to Four Diamonds on behalf of our Mini-THON. If you did not receive a t-shirt order form and would like one, click here.

And new this year, students are invited to set-up a personal fundraising page on Four Diamonds DonorDrive Website. This is optional. Everyone who makes a donor drive page and shares it will receive Four Diamonds FTK sunglasses or headband. Instructions can be found on the back of the t-shirt order form.

Let's Celebrate National
Read Across America Week
East Hanover Elementary is excited to participate in National Read Across America Week. It celebrates Dr. Seuss' contribution to children's literature. Please join us by participating in the spirit week! 

In addition to the spirit week, our school is going to do something extra special to join in the fun and celebrate the job of reading. We're going to have a Reading Challenge! Our students have been challenged to ready a total of 2000 books in 1 week! And we're competeing as grade levels too! The grade level that reads the most books will earn an ice cream party!

Each student was sent hom with a reading record. After your child reads a book, please initial one of the boxes on the edge of the card. when the card is filled, please have your child return it ot his/her teachers.

CALLING ALL STUDENT ARTISTS
Earn GIANT A+ Reward Points for
East Hanover by Designing the
2020 Reusable Shopping Bag
Since 2011, it has been GIANT'S mission to reduce the use of plastic bags in their stores. Through more efficient bagging, as well as programs like our reusable tote bags, they’ve successfully removed over 1 billion plastic bags from the waste stream. Now, theyre asking for our help to design our Spring 2020 reusable tote bag! Just by participating our school gets 5000 bonus A+ School Reward Points!

Design Contest Information:
Students are encouraged to draw a spring themed coloring page. Idea Starters: What’s your favorite thing about spring? What makes you happy about springtime?The winning students (selected by GIANT) will have their artwork featured on GIANT's Spring 2020 reusable tote bags.
 
Entry Guidelines:
  • Students K through 5th grade are eligible to participate.
  • Participants should create an entry on an 8.5 x 11-inch sheet of unlined, white paper.
  • Participants can use any standard drawing medium (i.e., coloring pencils, crayons, watercolors, or markers). Digital tools to create the artwork are not allowed.
  • The back of each entry MUST include the name, age, and grade of the participant. The back MUST also be signed by the entrant's parent/guardian. By signing, parents/guardians grant GIANT Food Stores (GIANT) the right to use entrant's name and publication of artwork in all media for advertising and promotional purposes, as well as in store, on its website, or for future contests, if applicable.
  • Entries must be submited to the elementary office by Monday, March 5.

Prizes:
  • Winner(s) will be randomly selected by GIANT.
  • If a winner from our school is chosen, East Hanover will receive an additional 5,000 A+ School Reward points (for a total of 10,000 points!)
  • Winner(s) will have artwork featured on their spring 2020 reusable bag, sold at our local GIANT.
  • The winner(s)’ school will be notified approximately two weeks after contest entry period.
