PTO Fundraising 101:
Feeling lost and overwhelmed by all of the Fundraisers? You aren’t alone. This is the final segment of our three-part series focusing on the three different types of fundraisers that you can expect to hear about from the PTO. If you missed the previous segments click here and here.
Part Three - Community & Cause Fundraising
Community & Cause Fundraising is unique in that instead of the money benefiting the school directly, the money raised goes to a specific cause or non-profit organization. These fundraisers may look like t-shirt sales, dine-out nights or a drive for supplies.

East Hanover Cares

New this year, East Hanover’s PTO is introducing “East Hanover Cares”. This initiative will support charitable causes through awareness, fundraising and fun activities for the students. The goal is to teach students:

  • Empathy – Learning about different causes and the people it affects
  • Empowerment – Anyone can make a difference, no matter what your age!
  • Engagement – Doing the right thing together as a group can be a lot of fun!

What causes will be supported?

Two non-profits have been identified this year that are important to our school community: Mini-THON, which benefits Four Diamonds and supports childhood cancer research & patients in our region and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). “East Hanover Cares” will support fundraising efforts for each of these organizations.

Additionally throughout the year we will do clothing & food drives and other service projects that benefit families in our school and also our community

Do I have to participate in everything?

Like all PTO events, participation is voluntary. There is no pressure to do it all! The variety of fundraisers provides an opportunity for you to choose how you want to participate and give back. We realize that some things may fit better with your interests, abilities or schedule. A calendar of East Hanover Cares events will be communicated. Please feel no obligation to give to every fundraiser, but choose which works best with your family, schedule and budget.

Remember – the main purpose of East Hanover Cares is to teach the students to become the philanthropists of the future.  No matter how big or small, we can all take steps to help make the world a better place and we welcome student involvement.
