From The Pictou Advocate: Jackie Jardine
Outside, the temperature is freezing cold and the winter wind is whipping through the bare trees, making them sway and dance as if keeping time to an ancient melody. But inside the Hopewell home that Angela Bliss shares with her two daughters, two dogs and two cats, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.
And inside the cosy den that Bliss uses as her workshop and lovingly refers to as her “cottage,” the welcoming feeling is even more palpable as she is surrounded by everything she loves. Family photos, aromatic candles, dried flowers, precious keepsakes. And jewelry. Lots and lots of sparkly, decadent jewelry.
Bliss is a jewelry maker and runs two companies single-handedly — Blissforium Jewelry Emporium and JanuarysGrace Children’s Jewelry for the younger set.

A little bit about the new
Pictou Seaside Marketpace...
The Marketplace is held from mid-June to mid-September in the Curling Club
building on the Pictou Waterfront at 66 Caladh Avenue. There has been a
Market running out of this building for approximately 20 year and it has
operated primarily as a Craft Market most of that time. However, it is our
goal to change that and offer more variety.
The new Marketplace is committed to focusing on consumable products,
entertainment, food, artisan creations, tourist services and most
importantly, a Community Gathering Place. An inviting and positive place
where everyone feels welcome to be a part of the Marketplace family as a
vendor and/or shopper.
They are looking for:
* Live art (painters, sculptors, etc)
The artist will be given a special space in the market to
perform their demonstration. If they have items they would like to sell, we
will offer them booth space at no charge or they can put out their case for
donations.
* Characture artists
The entertainer will be given a special space in the market
for their performance. If they have items they would like to sell, we will
offer them booth space at no charge or they can put out their case for
donations.
* Entertainers (buskers, actors, accapella groups)
The entertainer will be given a special space in the market
for their performance. If they have items they would like to sell, we will
offer them booth space at no charge or they can put out their case for
donations.
* Artists for Co-operative booth space
The space is rented in lengthen of 6' tables. Artists are
responsible to bring their own tables - The cost is $25/per table per day.
The Marketplace will be open on Saturday and Sundays. We may have some more
permanent booth spaces available as well so that they would not have to set
up and tear down every week. The price is not yet finalized for this option.
If there is interest, we can negotiate pricing options at that time.

Halifax's Nimbus Publishing Expands! |
|
|
From
Quill & Quire
With its 40th-anniversary celebrations on the horizon, Nimbus Publishing is getting settled in a new home in Halifax’s north end. The company has experienced rapid growth in recent years (31 per cent between 2014 and 2017, according to
Publishers Weekly’s list of fastest-growing indie pubs), and the old digs just weren’t cutting it any more.
“The warehouse staff had been asking for more space for a couple of years,” says Nimbus managing editor Whitney Moran. Production manager and co-owner Heather Bryan notes that the old warehouse was so packed the company rented storage space in a nearby industrial park to handle the overflow. “It was a constant problem,” Bryan says, “trying to fit new books in, always shuffling things around.”

Duckwalk a few miles in Toronto dancer Snoopy's heels and discover the true art of voguing |
|
|
From
CBC
For most people, when you hear the word "vogue" the only picture that comes to mind is Madonna. But with origins in the LGTBQ Harlem ballroom scene in the 1960s, vogue dancing had been around decades before Madonna ever canonized it. Outside of a few shining moments, though, the mainstream has largely remained pretty blind to it.
Choreographer and dancer Matthew "Snoopy" Cuff wants to change that.
